Alexandroupoli

The port of Alexandroupolis has an advantage due to its strategic position, defined both in terms of the Pan European Transport Network, as it is on the edge of the Pan European Vehicle Axis, and on a national level, since it is connected with the “Egnatia Odos” and the railway line axis Thessaloniki - Turkish border / Bulgarian border. Alexandroupolis Ferry Port is situated to the south of the town, close to the town centre and its amenitie.

From a national point of view the advantages are reflected in the choice of the port as the main axis of the northern port infrastructure and the decision to release funds from the CSF and the NSRF 2007-2013, in order to complete the dredging of the new harbor basin and channel, the formation of land areas and its equipment.
It has one significant advantage in its adequacy of land areas. It is already one of the largest in available land area ports of the country, and will be expanded even more through excavation of the basin and channel dredging. The low cost of the acquisition of additional land surface facilitates the attraction for the installation of new uses. Its connection with the “Egnatia Odos” through an access road has already been initiated and its connection to the rail network, with provision for a rail link with the container terminal.
